Missionary Letter for December, 2007

David A. Zuhars Jr. & Lee Ellen Zuhars

Dear Fellow Laborers in Christ,

“Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar”. Proverbs 30:5-6.

By Gods grace we have the Holy Scriptures of God in written form.  It is the inspired, infallible, and inerrant Word of our living God.  It is complete and adequate for every need of man and the work of God.  Lord, we thank thee for your Word to us and the understanding that thou gavest us of it by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Departing the USA.  Our departure from the USA was with mixed emotions.  We feel sadness in leaving our friends, brethren and family, but look forward to the work God has called us to and seeing our brethren here.  The last Sunday in the USA was the 2nd and I had the privilege of preaching on Sunday morning for the Bryan Station Baptist Church and of attending this same church on Sunday night.  It was a good time spent with them and we count it a great blessing and it will bring fond memories in the future.

We want to express our thanks to all the Lords churches for the invitation to preach and tell of Brazil.  We thank the churches for their love offerings and also the churches that helped with the expenses of our stay while in the USA.

We left the USA for Brazil on the 4th from the Cincinnati airport at 7:15 am for Miami and then Miami at 5:15 pm for Brazil.  From Miami we went to Manuas, Amazonas and then on to Fortaleza, Ceará, with stops at Belém, Pará and São Luis, Maranhão, finally arriving at 6 am on the 5th.  Three of our Brazilian brethren were at the airport in Fortaleza to meet us (Pastor Romualdo, Alciano and Ana Maria).  The church had prepared on the table at our home a breakfast and some gifts.

The First Baptist Church in the Garden of the Olive Trees.  The church seems to be going along alright and faithful to the Lord.  We are back in the routine of things.  We will have, the Lord willing, a New Years Eve service tomorrow and I will be preaching.  I intend to preach on the Second Coming of the Lord Jesus Christ: Do You Love His Appearing?  The church here will celebrate their 25th anniversary on the 16th of January.  We are having special services from the 16th through the 20th.  Pray for us and the speakers.

The Work in Tapera, Ceará.  I have not been to visit this work since I arrived back in Brazil, but intend to in the near future.  Brother Mardônio indicates that every thing goes on as usual.  One of the sisters there (Isoda) has not been attending the services for some time because she is mad at the preacher.  We must make a visit to her and try to deal with the problem.  Pray for her and this problem.  It may come to discipline.

Ibicuitaba, Ceará. I and some other brethren made a trip to Ibicuitaba on the 14th and returned on the 15th.  I preached on Friday on Saved By Grace from II Kings 25.  There are still a good number of lost people attending the preaching services on Sunday.  Pray for them and Brother Antônio that preaches to them.

Tucuruí, Pará.  The trip to Tucuruí is planned and marked for the 4th of January.  I will return on the 7th.  I have been in contact with brother Glailson there and there are six brethren to baptize.  They will be baptized by the authority of the First Baptist Church in the Garden of the Olive Trees in Fortaleza.  The church here voted this morning to baptize these brethren.  Their names are Glailson, Girleno (Glailson´s brother), Nora (Glailson and Girleno´s mother), Luiz Haroldo, Everton, and Márcio (Evertons brother) Pray for these and the work of God there.  Also we ask that you pray, if the Lord wills, to call out a preacher from among them.  We pray that a New Testament Baptist Church will be established there.

Brethren, we need some help with the expense of these trips to Tucuruí.  Each trip costs between $800 and $900.  And that is the expense just for me to go.  My wife has never been with me, but she would like to make a trip with me sometime.  The Lord opened the door for this work.  Pray about this need with us.

“For what if some did not believe?  Shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?  God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged”.  Romans 3:3-4.
